What is a Herbst Appliance?
The Herbst appliance is a fixed orthodontic device used to correct significantly delayed or underdeveloped lower jaws and chins. Unlike removable appliances, the Herbst works 24/7 to guide jaw growth forward.

How Does It Work?
The Herbst appliance is attached to the molars with bands and has metal arms that connect the upper and lower jaws. When the mouth closes, the lower jaw is held in a forward position. Over time, this:

What to Expect
First Week

Sports & Activities
Normal activities can continue. A mouthguard is recommended for contact sports.
Cleaning
